The Vice Governor of Buenos Aires, Verónica Magario, has called a special session next Monday to modify the electoral deadlines in the province of Buenos Aires. This initiative arises in the context of a truce within Unión por la Patria (UxP) to address a fundamental issue of the electoral calendar.
The Chamber of Senators of the province of Buenos Aires has confirmed that it will meet at 2 PM to discuss a unified project that has the support of all political forces, in order to comply with the request made by the Buenos Aires Electoral Board.
The project, backed by various parties such as UxP, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), Derecha Popular (DP), UCR+Cambio Federal, and Unión, Renovación y Fe (URF), aims to amend Article 61 of Law 5,109. Among the proposals of the project is the extension of electoral deadlines to ensure 50 days between the submission of lists and the electoral act, as well as 30 days for the identification ballots of the official candidates.
The proposal establishes that the lists of candidates for the elections in Buenos Aires should be submitted by July 19, at least 50 days before the elections on September 7, and the identification ballots should be submitted on August 8, with a minimum of 30 days' notice.
The need to review these deadlines was raised by the provincial Electoral Board, which argued the difficulty of complying with the current calendar, given that the provincial elections are scheduled for September 7.
The approval of this project would demonstrate an emerging consensus among different political sectors regarding the importance of adjusting electoral deadlines to improve the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process. It would also reflect the ability of the Kicillof administration and La Cámpora to reach internal agreements to implement necessary changes to ensure the normal development of the provincial elections.
